Let’s do some detective work.

Whatever is holding you back is something you can’t see but is always present.

Let’s save you some time … Gravity fits very nicely into this category. Gravity is all around us all the time. So much so that we tend to take it for granted.

Gravity leads you to something else you can’t see and may have yet to consider. Balance.

Your mind uses gravity to tell your body that it’s out of balance. The instant your body senses an imbalance, your mind manipulates your body position and, more importantly, while your body performs its balancing routine your movements take on a life of their own.

Therefore, to produce MLB ready results, you want your throwing action to become the balancing routine your body uses to get itself back into balance.


How do you do this?

You start with and stick with ONE pitching plan. Once you have a pitching plan, you discipline yourself to adjust to trends.

Every time you experience 3 or more unacceptable outcomes in a row, you know some movement within your pitching plan is forcing you to use your throwing arm as a part of your balancing routine.

Becoming MLB Ready Should be a Given

How does a Pitcher become MLB ready?

  1. Location - A Catcher places his target in a spot where the Hitter is least likely to drive the ball and the Pitcher hits the Catcher’s spot.

  • Baseball treats lower body engagement as something a Pitcher does, yet, research proves, a Pitcher’s lower body engagement is actually a reaction to the Pitcher’s body position at the end of their front leg lift.
  • Until Baseball learns how to teach lower body engagement through their Student’s front leg lift position, Pitchers will continue to waste their time trying to do something that’s physically impossible to do.

Instead of pitching to a lower standard of performance directly related to Baseball’s inability to engage a Pitcher’s lower half, Pitchers should ...

Stop Moving Down the Mound!


Instead of hoping your ball goes where you want, pitch location can become an expectation.

Knowledge Base:        Inertia describes an object’s resistance to change in motion.
Momentum describes an object’s movement.

Momentum Hurts Location

When your delivery is driven by your movement down the mound, your shoulder rotation produces yours ball release.

Unless your stride tempo is exactly the same from one pitch to the next, your release point will continually change, and you can’t know with any certainty where any one pitch will end up.

Inertia Produces Location

When, out of your front leg lift, you open your front shoulder, you spin down the mound, your foot plant stops your rotation and your ball release becomes an instinctive reaction.

Once you know how to duplicate your change in direction from one pitch to the next, you can expect your pitches to travel directly into your target.

Finding Location Solutions

With momentum, your location depends upon your stride tempo. Anyone can ask any Pitcher to make their stride tempo the same on every pitch, but we have yet to find a way to reproduce the same tempo from one pitch to the next.

With inertia, your location comes from ending your front leg lift with your weight evenly distributed around your core. Ending your front leg lift with your weight centered around your core is an extremely teachable skill. Therefore, instead of hoping your ball goes where you want, location becomes an expectation.

Unconscious Pitch Results are Within Reach


Your subconscious brings your throwing hand through a very sustainable and extremely productive release window.

A Typical Movement Cycle

Every movement you make on and off the diamond follows this pattern.
  1. Balance - You always begin in a balanced position.
  2. Action - You make an action.
  3. Balance - Your subconscious gets your body back into balance.
  4. You begin the process all over again.

High-Level Results Begin with a Front Leg Lift

Balance - You end your front leg lift with your weight evenly distributed around your core.
  1. Action – You open your upper body toward your target.
  2. Balance – Your action forces your subconscious to use your throwing action to get your body back into balance.

Result – Your subconscious brings your throwing hand through a very sustainable and extremely productive release window.

Ordinary Results Also Begin with your Front Leg Lift

Balance - You end your front leg lift with your weight over your back foot.
  1. Action - Your only option is to stride toward your target.
  2. Balance – Your action forces your subconscious to use your throwing arm to balance your weight as you move down the mound, then, as you end your stride, uses your throwing arm to balance your weight between your feet.

Result – To complete your delivery, you’re forced to make a separate throwing action and, when your subconscious turns your throwing action into an independent movement, you never know where any one pitch will end up.

A Biologically Based Look at Your Throwing Action

Failure to expect your pitches to end where you want means you need to pay more attention to your movements into your front leg lift.

The Evolution of Lower Body Engagement


The only way to truly maximize your lower body rotation is by balancing on one foot and opening your front shoulder.

When you do this, your spinning action tells your body you may be in jeopardy of getting hurt.
To stabilize the situation, your body places your front foot back on the ground.

When your front foot hits the ground, it’s your connection with the ground that causes your hips, when compared to your shoulders, to over rotate.

Your body’s drive to get your shoulders parallel to your hips forces your under rotated shoulders to catch up with your hips.

Your shoulders catching up with your hips whips your throwing hand into release.


Creating a Lower Body Throwing Action

Lower body engagement begins with your hands separating at the same time your stride begins.

Your hand separation opens your front shoulder and sets off the cascading series of events described above.

As a consequence, you see your throwing arm whipping into release, your ball ending up where you expect and you challenging the best hitters to make solid contact with your pitches.


Measuring Your Lower Body Involvement

Your lower body is driving your results when …

Your Motion - Your hands separate at the same time you begin your stride.
Your Results – You expect each pitch to end up where you planned.
Your Opponent - Your Opponent’s tendency is to miss your mistakes.

How to Experience Instant Pitch Improvement


By using the cues your biological need to stay in balance shows us, we teach you a dynamic front leg lift position that sends your ball where you want and with the ball movement you expect.

You want any change to your motion to do two things.

First, you want to feel like your release is less restricted. Second, you want to see a larger portion of your pitches travel into your intended target.

Pitching Balance Guarantees Sustainability

What is your sequencing?

Next time you look at your motion, focus on your front leg/hand separation sequencing.

When, after you begin your stride, your hands separate, you know your biological need for balance is using your throwing arm path to offset your stride.

When your natural need for balance takes over your throwing arm path, you cannot possibly know with any certainty where any one pitch ends up.

As a result of your stride coming before your hand separation, whether you realize it or not, every pitching session is spent TRYING to figure out a way to control your biological drive for balance. 

The solution is not as simple as you think.

Contrary to widely held beliefs, no one has the will power to simply demand your hand separation to come before your stride.

However, you do have the power to better manage your biological need for balance.

How to Expect Superior Pitching Results


When you have the right footwork, your drive for balance uses your throwing action to complete your delivery.  This means, when you properly manage your biological need for balance, your pitches end up where you want and behave the way you expect.

You're born with a biological balance mechanism whose sole purpose is to satisfy your deep-rooted need for balance.

Your biological balance mechanism turns “on” before you even realize you have an imbalance. Likewise, once your body senses it’s back in balance, your biological balance mechanism turns “off”.

Your biological balance mechanism produces the movements you see

Prior to making any action, your biological balance mechanism must be in the “off” position. This means that any action will cause your weight to shift.

4/28 - What part of your motion has the greatest impact on your results?

Your initial footwork has the greatest impact on your results. 

Your legwork before your front foot comes off the ground determines your body position at the top of your front leg lift. From the top of your front leg lift, your body either uses your throwing arm to get your body back in balance or uses your throwing action to keep your body in balance.

When you use your throwing arm to get you back in balance, you let your drive for balance take over your throwing arm path and you’re never know for sure where any one pitch ends up. When your throwing action keeps you in balance, you can expect a large percent of your pitches to travel directly into your intended target.

For example, when you see an individual stride in 2 dimensions, without knowing how to read his physical reactions, you have no idea whether the person strides straight, to the right or to the left.

With this in mind, without studying how what you see in 2-dimensions relates to the 3-dimensional world, using a video to improve your pitching can cause more issues than you realize.

3/17 – How does balance play into my pitch location?

Picture walking a balance beam or teetering over the support beam on a seesaw. You make any movement and, without you thinking about it, your body automatically reacts to the opposite side.

In pitching, when you end your stride with your weight shifted to your glove hand side, the only way for your body to get back in balance is to make a throwing action. Combine this with a laser focus on your target and your body spontaneously delivers every pitch directly into your target.

The more your back knee is over your back foot, the greater the probability your pitch ends up where you plan, but, to maximize their location, we teach our Pitchers how to end their front leg lift with your back-knee to the second base side of their back foot.

Your foot placements.
Your initial foot placements drive your body position at the top of your front leg lift and your body position at the top of your front leg lift determines your next pitch location.

2/18 - What's the one thing you don't do, but should be doing, that'll guarantee pitch location?

Have your hand separation out of your front leg lift begin your movement toward your target.
When you make your first movement out of your front leg lift your stride, you're going to use your throwing arm for balance and, consequently, won't know with any certainty where any one pitch will end.

2/11 - What ONE thing can you do to immediately tighten your target area?

Unless you eliminate gravity from impacting your front leg lift, your pitch location is doomed before your front foot comes off the ground.

2/4 - Why is it that, even though you have a laser focus on your location, you still have trouble with your location?

Your mind's supercomputer is programmed to keep your body in balance. When a single movement creates an imbalance, your mind uses your throwing arm for balance and, consequently, you never know where any one pitch will end up. Resolve the movement creating your imbalance and you immediately tighten your target area. Don't know which movement is causing your imbalance.

In pitching, less is more.

If you use your time wisely, once your Team is cleared to go back to the diamond, you can have better pitch location than when you left.

Your motion’s physical reality

Physically, your body works like the chain reaction you see when dominos fall. One domino causes the next to fall which spurs the next one to fall. This pattern continues until there are no more dominos.

Unlike the physical universe, anytime your body senses you’re about to fall over, your subconscious mind is going to use your throwing arm to keep you upright.

However, just like the dominos, when, at any one point, your body changes its position, you completely change and totally lose control of your throwing arm path.

Remove any imbalance and you rely on a spontaneous throwing action to deliver your pitches directly into your target.

How do you turn your throwing action into a natural reaction?

You start by realizing gravity impacts your pitching chain at your front leg lift, hand separation and into your throwing action.

This is your recipe for expecting your pitches to end up where you want.

You start by making a slow-motion delivery.

Should your motion stop, and this is the hardest part, you need to forget everything everyone says you need to do and start listening to what your body tells you to do.

Your mission becomes eliminating any movement you think creates even the slightest imbalance.

You continue doing this until you find the right combination of footwork, front leg lift and hand separation that, without stopping, forces every slow-motion delivery to end with a throwing action.

Accomplish this and, after your forced hiatus, you’ll come back to the mound with better pitch location than ever!
