Shoulder Alignment

My name is Coach Skip, and you’re about to learn “balance” in pitching.

Bad Alignment

Out-of-line Shoulders naturally take your motion out of balance and your Throwing Arm compensates for your imbalance.

Great Alignment

As you move into your release, your Shoulders being in line your target keeps your motion in balance.

There’s no conflict and your Throwing Hand naturally sends the ball right to your target with uncanny regularity.

One Motion

When you place your weight in front of your Back Foot and with the correct Glove Arm action, your Lower Body gets involved.

My name is Coach Skip, and you’re about to learn “balance” in pitching.

Bad Command

When you place all your weight over your Back Foot, your Foot Strike initiates your Throwing Action.

Your Throwing Arm produces your location, and your command gets spotty.

Great Command

However, when you place your weight in front of your Back Foot and with the correct Glove Arm action, your Lower Body gets involved.

Throwing Action reacts to your Stride, and your ball ends up in the target with uncanny regularity.

Foot Positions

An ideal Front Foot distance is one baseball width away from your Back Foot.

My name is Coach Skip, and you’re about to learn “balance” in pitching.

Bad Placement

The more distance between your Feet, the greater chance you naturally create an imbalance.

An imbalance causes your Throwing Arm guides your pitch.

Good Placement

An ideal Front Foot distance is one baseball width away from your Back Foot.

Combines this with an ideal Front Foot Lift and the ball goes to your target with uncanny regularity.

Starting Positions

Starting Position

I’m Coach Skip and I teach a natural pitching process built to deliver a much larger portion of your pitches directly to your intended target.

Bad Starts

When you end your Starting Position with your weight over your Back Foot, you end your stride, then release your pitch.

Your Throwing Hand works alone and the likelihood your ball goes to your target decreases exponentially.

Good Starts

A better Starting Position has your weight balanced just in front of your Back Foot.

Your Glove Hand activates your Hips, pulls your Throwing Arm into release, and your ball goes to your target with uncanny regularity.

Head Position

I’m Coach Skip and I teach a natural pitching process built to deliver a much larger portion of your pitches directly to your intended target.

Head In Front of Back Foot

As seen in this video, your Head positioned in front of the Back Foot lets you fall into your Stride and the Throwing Arm reacts.

Your ball takes an unpredictable path and produces inconsistent command.

Your Head beginning over your Back Foot promotes command.

Your weight distribution lets your Glove Hand promote your Lower Body and the ball hits your target with uncanny regularity.

I’m Coach Skip and I teach a natural pitching process built to deliver a much larger portion of your pitches directly to your intended target.

Weight In Front of Your Body

Your misses are caused by your weight distribution.

Glove Hand Movement

I’m Coach Skip and I’ll teach you a pitching process to deliver a much larger portion of your pitches directly to your intended target.

Your Stride Hurts Your Location

When you actively Stride, you use your Upper Body for balance.

Once your Upper Body is in line with your Lower Body, you deliver the ball.

Your Upper and Lower Body activity expands your target area.

Your Glove Hand Produces Location

What you want is your Body to respond to your Glove Hand.

Your Body remains vertical, and your Glove Hand movement gets the ball directly to your target.

Your Front Leg Promotes Your Throwing Action

Begin with your weight in front of your Back Foot, your Body waits to be in balance.

FEET CLOSE TOGETHER

I’m Coach Skip and I’ll teach you how to deliver a much larger portion of your pitches directly to your intended target.

What Not To Do

Starting with your Feet too far apart causes your Front Knee to naturally move behind your Front Hip.

You lose your Glove Hand and expand the target area.

What To Do

You start with your Feet closer together and your Front Leg automatically stays even with your Front Hip.

You maintain control of your Glove Hand, and the ball goes into your target.

Glove Hand Movement Promotes Command

Glove Hand Movement Promotes Command

I’m Coach Skip and I’ll teach you how to send a much large portion of your pitches directly to your intended or your instruction is free … No questions… No hassles… and no hard feelings.

What Not To Do

Starting your Glove Hand movement above your Elbow causes a problem.

Your movement triggers you to use your Throwing Arm for balance and using your Throwing Arm for balance produces poor results.

What To Do

From a good Starting Position, your Glove Hand being below your Elbow and your Glove Hand Palm pointing toward Home produces better results more often.

Your Glove Hand moves toward your target and the pitch follows your Glove Hand.

Throwing Arm Command*

Hi, I’m Coach Skip and I teach pitchers how to use their Lower Body to promote command.

Non-Command

Any Starting Position where your Front Knee begins behind your Front Hip means your Throwing Arm is used for balance.

Your Throwing Arm action causes you to lose your target.

Command

On the other hand, a well-coordinated, balanced Starting Position puts your ball where you want.

While your Front Foot is still off the ground, you use your Glove Arm to activate your Lower Body.

Your Glove Arm pulling back gives your Body no choice but to use activate your Lower Body.

Your ball goes to your target and your control the hitter.

Command

Hi, I’m Coach Skip and I have a simple way to improve your command.

Complicated Command

You don’t realize it, but, throughout the motion, your Throwing Arm is involved with your balance, and, because of this, your Throwing Arm commands your pitch.

Everything feels normal, but your location is spotty.

Command is Simple

On the other hand, your best command comes from landing your Front Leg lift, then coming into your motion.

Your starting position places your weight just in front of your Back Foot, your Front Leg is free to rise without hurting your balance, and your Glove Hand has your Lower Body send your pitch to your target.

Your Throwing Action creates your command.

Front Foot Position*

Begin your motion with your feet one baseball width apart, you merely lift your front leg, and your Front Knee stays in front of your Front Hip.

Hi, I’m Coach Skip and I have a simple way to improve your command (and velocity).

Your front foot position predicts your front knee lift.

Front Foot Mover Than Shoulders

When you begin with your front foot wider than your Shoulders, you end your front leg lift with your front knee behind your front hip.

From this position you have little control over your pitch.

Feet 1-Baseball Width

However, begin your motion with your feet one baseball width apart, you merely lift your front leg, and your Front Knee stays in front of your Front Hip.

From this position you know where your ball will end up

Front Knee Position Drives Success*

Your Front Knee beginning in front of your Front Hip means your body is in balance and your Arms are free to move the way you want.

Front Knee Behind Your Front Hip

Your Front Knee starting behind your Front Hip tells your body it needs to react to your weight distribution.

As you move down the mound, your Throwing Hand keeps your body in balance, you lose your command, and never know where any one pitch will end up.

Front Knee in Front of Your Front Hip

However, your Front Knee beginning in front of your Front Hip means your body is in balance and your Arms are free to move the way you want.

Back Knee Position Promotes Command

Your command is as good as it’s going to be when Back Knee begins behind your Back Foot.

Hi, my name is Coach Skip and I guarantee* to make any throwing action more productive!

Only one Back Knee position promotes better command.

Back Knee Position

Your Back Knee beginning in front of your Back Foot isn’t your solution.

Your command is as good as it’s going to be when your Back Knee begins behind your Back Foot.

Place your Back Knee behind your Back Foot and

-        - Your weight stays back,
Your throwing action becomes natural and automatic, and
- Y

Lower Body Step and Throw

Your Arms deliver the ball to your target, and you force the Hitter to pick up ball speed and movement.

Don’t “Step then Throw”

In your Starting Position, when your front knee goes behind your front hip, your Arms instinctively keep your body in balance.

You regain the use of your Arms at Foot Plant, then you deliver the ball.

You let your weight move forward, you step then throw, and your Throwing Action determines your ball location.

Do “Step and Throw”

However, when your Front Knee stays in front of your front hip, you control your Arms movements, land your Foot Plant, and throw the ball.

Your Arms deliver the ball to your target, and you force the Hitter to pick up ball speed and movement.

Essentially, your Lower Body produces your command.

Starting Positions Produce Lower Body Activity

Even small adjustments in your body’s mechanics produce superior results. Miss your starting position, forget about your lower body and your body naturally adapts.

Hi, I’m Coach Skip and I teach lower body engagement.

The Lower Body Process

Your lower body pitching process encompasses some well-defined mechanics.

First, your Starting Position produces your Front Leg lift.

Then, your Front Leg lift generates your Lower Body activity.

Finally, your Lower Body activity sends the ball directly into your target.

What Do You Earn?

Even small adjustments in your body’s mechanics produce superior results.

Improve Your Lower Body Results

The larger the distance between your knees the more command you have. Therefore, a balanced front leg lift keeps your front knee in front of your front hip.

Hi, my name is Coach Skip and I teach lower body engagement.

Your Goal

The larger the distance between your knees the more command you have.

Therefore, a balanced front leg lift keeps your front knee in front of your front hip.

Your Process

Your lower body engagement occurs when you produce a balanced front leg lift, your shoulders open, and you stride.

Your stride prompts your lower body sends the ball into your target.

Your Resolution

Concentrate on a balanced front leg lift, and the hitter needs to read location, ball speed, and movement.

Your Lower Body and Your Body

Stop using your arms for balance and get your balance to spot your pitches.

Hi, I’m Coach Skip and I teach lower body engagement.

When Does Your Body Fail?

You don’t realize it, but your arms are used to keep your body in balance.

You either use your arms for balance and deliver the ball to your target or your body is in balance, and you deliver the ball to your target.

When Does Your Body Succeed?

The difference is your starting position.

A balanced starting position promotes accuracy.

You get into your starting position and use your glove hand position to place your pitches.

The Resolution

Nothing can be simpler!

Feel free to use my do-it-yourself pitching program or my in-person, South Jersey pitching sessions to improve your motion to get your starting position in balance.

Your Lower Body and Your Glove Arm

Hi, I’m Coach Skip and I teach lower body engagement.

Pro Pitching Institute

An Inactive Glove Hand

From an out-of-balance starting position, you use your glove arm to keep your body in balance, you lose control of your glove hand until your front foot hits the ground and, when your front foot hits the ground, your glove arm has no impact on your pitch location.

An Active Glove Hand

However, from a balance starting position, your pitch location is about your glove hand path triggering your lower body and sending the ball into your target.

With this specific glove hand path, your pitch location becomes automatic, and your concern is your pitch speed and movement.

The Resolution

If you’re unable to get your glove hand to drive your command, feel free to use my do-it-yourself pitching program or my in-person, South Jersey pitching sessions to improve your motion.

Your Lower Body and Your Feet

Your foot position promotes your lower body.

Hi, I’m Coach Skip and I teach lower body engagement.

Your Feet Kill Your Results

When your feet begin too far apart, your front leg takes over your motion.

Your front leg must hit the ground and your throwing hand delivers the ball toward your target.

Because you don’t consciously control your throwing hand, you never know where your ball will end up.

Your Feet Promote Lower Body Engagement

On the other hand, when your feet create balance, your glove hand gets your hips to rotate, your hips fire your throwing hand, and your lower body delivers your ball into your target.

If you’re unable to get your feet in the right position, feel free to use my do-it-yourself pitching program or my in-person, South Jersey pitching sessions to improve your motion.

Lower Body Engagement

Lower Body Involvement

Hi, I’m Coach Skip and I teach lower body engagement.

What is Lower Body Engagement?

Your foot positions, front leg lift, and glove hand action force your lower body to deliver the ball to your target.

You must first balance your front leg lift, then have your glove hand take you into your foot strike.

Your glove hand takes you into a naturally automatic release point and your release point produces your command.

How Do You Get It?

No one else spent the time to discover how your lower body delivers the ball to your target than me.

So, if you’re unable to get your lower body to produce your command, feel free to use my do-it-yourself pitching program or my in-person, South Jersey pitching sessions to improve your motion.

The Origin of Fastball Command

Fastball command isn’t about your throwing action.

What Fastball Command Isn’t

Fastball command isn’t about your throwing action … it’s about your front leg lift.

Without a balanced front leg lift, your foot plant is gravity driven, and your ball goes within your target area, but never into your target as often as you need.

What Fastball Command Is

The most important action is your balanced front leg lift.

Fastball command comes from producing a balanced front leg lift, a well-managed glove hand action, and a well-timed throwing arm trigger.

Resolution

Unable to get your balance into your front leg lift, feel free to use my do-it-yourself pitching program or my in-person, South Jersey pitching sessions to improve your motion.

Promote Fastball Command

Your fastball command improves when you keep your throwing arm in front of your body.

Random Fastball Command

Your throwing hand going behind your body tells you that you don’t have the fastball command you need.

Your throwing arm going behind your body is used to balance your stride, your body position is random, and your ball release is arbitrary.

Pinpoint Fastball Command

However, your hands staying in front of your body shouts fastball command.

Your body is in balance, your throwing arm reacts to your glove hand, you land in the same body position all the time, and the ball goes where you want.

Resolution

Unable to get your throwing arm in front of your body, feel free to use my do-it-yourself pitching program or my in-person, South Jersey pitching sessions to improve your motion.

Command and Your Stride

Command and Your Stride

Once your front leg lift is balanced, your glove hand path takes control of the ball.

Later Front Leg

Right now, your out-of-balanced starting position has you finishing your stride, then firing the ball toward your target.

Thoughts you can control the ball are a misconception.

Earlier Front Leg

However, from a balanced front leg lift, when your glove hand takes a direct path toward your target, you begin your throwing action, then your front foot hits the ground.

Your glove hand tips your weight, your throwing hand begins its trip toward home, and your ball goes where your eyes are focused.

Resolution

For those of you who are unable to balance your starting position, feel free to use my do-it-yourself pitching program or my in-person, South Jersey pitching sessions to improve your command.

Command Requires an Open Front Shoulder

Your open front shoulder triggers your hips and sends your pitches into your target.

Do you know an open front shoulder at foot strike gets your lower body to send your pitches directly into your target?

A Closed Front Shoulder

If you’re like most pitchers you currently create an imbalance, you land your stride with your front shoulder closed to your target, and essentially don’t know where the ball will end up.

An Open Front Shoulder

On the other hand, when you place your feet one baseball width apart and lift your front leg straight up, your ability to let your glove arm take over your motion.

Your glove arm opens your hips, your hips begin your throwing action, and your ball goes where you want with one motion and one result ... into your target.

Resolutions

Unable to balance your motion, feel free to use my do-it-yourself pitching program or my in-person, South Jersey pitching sessions to improve your motion.

Until next time, I’m Coach Skip telling you pitch location is coachable.

Your Glove Hand Prompts Command

Your glove hand controls your front leg movement and prompts command.

Do you realize your glove arm controls your pitch location?

Front Side Takes Over

Let’s say you have a perfect set up and you let your front side takes over.

When you let this happen, your front foot hits the ground and your body naturally position your weight distributed between your legs.

From this position, you’re free to fire the ball, but your problem is that you never know where the ball is going to end up.

Arms Control Your Command

Your arms controlling your legs is the better situation.

When you let your arms control your legs, your legs follow your arms.

Your Solution

Your ball naturally goes where you want, and you keep the hitter guessing about ball speed and movement.

Your ball goes into your target, and you end up controlling the hitter.

Having trouble with your upper body controlling your legs, I’m waiting for a call.

Command is Balance

Pro Pitching Institute

Beginning your motion with your weight balanced over your back foot means you control the ball.

Out of Balance Front Legs

When you make the mistake of placing your weight in front of your back leg, here’s what’s going to happen.

Your front leg lift places your weight over your back leg and, as soon as you move toward the target, your body can’t do anything until your front foot hits the ground and you balance your weight between your feet.

With your weight in balance, you complete your delivery and send your ball home.

Balanced Front Legs

Beginning your motion with your weight balanced over your back leg eliminates these self-corrections and makes your delivery part of your motion.

Your weight balanced over your back leg gives you the confidence to send your ball to your target.

Having trouble beginning your motion with your weight balanced over your back leg, I’m waiting for your call.

Your Glove Hand Path Produces Command

Your glove hand determines where your throwing hand goes.

Your glove hand path makes your ball go where you want.

Preparation

You prepare for your glove hand path by
- bending your knees,
- placing your feet one baseball width apart,
- putting your weight over your back knee, and
- making sure your front foot is over your front shoulder.

Front Foot Lift

When your front foot comes off the ground, you

- lift your front knee toward your front shoulder,
- position your back heel in front of your back toe and
- make sure your front toe is facing the target.

Delivery

From there, your glove hand produces your command.

You …

- brings your glove hand palm toward your target and
- ball moves directly to your target.

Essentially, your glove hand triggers your lower body to naturally send your ball directly to your target.

Having an issue with your glove hand path, Coach Skip is waiting for your call.

Missing Command?

Pro Pitching Institute

Unless you consistently get into the same front leg lift position, your command automatically suffers.

- Do you have a way to manage your foot placements?
- Before your front foot comes off the ground, do you have a way to place your legs in the same position?
- Can you consistently move your front leg into your front leg lift, in the same way, all the time?
- Most importantly, do you have a consistent way to measure each of these facets?

If the answer to these questions is “no”, then you lack the command needed to experience next-level success.

Produce Command

Your Coach teaches you how to be consistent.

- He’ll teach you to understand how to get into your front leg lift, in the same way, all the time,

- He’ll teach you how to expect your pitches to end up where you want, and

- He’ll tell you how to always challenge the best hitters to reach base.

Need help showing command consistency? Coach Skip is waiting for your call.

Your Lower Body Produces Command

How to get your lower body to send your pitches where you want.

You might not know this, but your balance is determined by your front foot position.

No Lower Body

Your front foot position causes your front knee to finish behind your front hip, you need a weight shift to move down the mound, and you begin your throwing action after your weight is back in balance.

In this process, you eliminate your lower body, your throwing arm controls your delivery, and your ball ends up where your body decides.

You miss two pitches in a row to your target and your front foot position is the reason.

Engaged Lower Body

However, you begin your motion with the front foot position close to your back foot and you’re more likely to have the balance needed for your lower body to send your ball directly to your target.

Said another way, when you get your front foot to begin closer to your back foot, your lower body pulls your throwing arm through the same release point.

Need help with your foot placement? Coach Skip is waiting for your call.
